The Ashfield District Council was formed on the 1st April, 1974, and comprises the former Urban Districts of Hucknall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield, together with the parishes of Annesley, Felley and Selston, which were part of the Basford Rural District.
