Preferred Option
||Consultation on the ‘Core Strategy Preferred Option’ has now ended
Implications of recent government announcements on the production of the Core Strategy
The coalition government has made a commitment to abolish Regional Strategies and return decision making powers on the amount of housing development within local authority areas to local councils. This has significant implications for the Core Strategy, which will need to be carefully considered before the document can be progressed to the next stage. The government has not issued detailed guidance on these changes as yet, and a formal announcement is expected soon. The revised timescales for progressing the Core Strategy will be published on this webpage shortly, once the implications of this announcement are fully understood. The comments that you have already submitted are important to the LDF process and will be considered and, where appropriate, included in future documents. You will be kept informed of the timetable for the next stages of the Core Strategy production.
Response Document from the Kirkby Residents Association (KARA)
Ashfield District is changing. By 2026 significant population and housing growth is envisaged. The population of Ashfield is expected to rise by approximately 14%, and land for new homes will need to be found. New jobs, shops and leisure facilities will also have to be provided.
The Council wants you to be involved in this decision making process and help to produce the planning documents which will shape the future development of Ashfield.
