Minor changes within the curtilage of a residential dwelling may be made without the need to apply for formal Planning Permission. These rights are called Permitted Development Rights. Development could include:

In some instances the Local Planning Authority may have removed these rights to ensure full control over the type of development carried out. In this instance Planning Permission would be required.

You are therefore strongly advised to complete and submit the Planning and Building Control Questionnaire prior to commencement of works in order to ascertain whether Planning Permission is required.
