Housing Benefit is a Social Security benefit which helps with the cost of the rent you have to pay to live in your home.
It is sometimes called rent rebate or rent allowance and it is paid by your local council.
You cannot get help from Housing Benefit for:
- Mortgage interest payments
- Some service charges
- Fuel costs or
- Meals.
Help with mortgage interest may be included in your Jobseeker's Allowance if you get income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
